Philanthropy Chair at ESSEC

The mission of the Philanthropy Chair is to study, develop and promote both knowledge about and the role of philanthropy on a European level. In this way it aims to contribute to the development of philanthropy’s efficiency and capacity to resolve key social issues.

In order to fulfill this mission, the Chair has set the following goals:

  • Promote and encourage understanding of the role and practice of philanthropy by both individuals and institutions.
  • Contribute to theoretical and applied research on philanthropy and social investment respecting academic standards of excellence.
  • Strengthen the capacity for analysis, management and governance of those involved in the philanthropy sector.
  • Facilitate the development of academic research networks and best practice in philanthropy.

As a research chair, the principal activities will be generating and disseminating accurate, up-to-date information about philanthropy. In this way, it will constitute an academic center of excellence and acquire recognition as :

  • the partner of note for European academic collaborative projects for producing and distributing knowledge at the highest levels to French and international audiences.
  • a catalyst for the professionalization and development of the philanthropy sector in the broadest sense.
  • a source of knowledge for the sector, via seminars and conferences.
